Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On November 13, 2025, at approximately 10:26 a.m., a Missoula Police Department Officer responded to another officer’s request for assistance. The original officer was in the area of Playfair Park when she observed a vehicle that appeared to be parked for camping purposes. The vehicle was on the street and did not have a permit from the Vehicle Permit Program, which is required for camping in a vehicle within city limits. The vehicle was registered to 52-year-old J.H.

Upon arrival, two officers observed a male and J.H. having intercourse in the front seat of a vehicle. The officer knocked, announced herself, and requested that the occupants get clothes on and exit the vehicle. While waiting for them to do so, the officer observed a water bong in plain view in the back seat.

The male, identified as 27-year-old Calen Hengel, put his pants on and stepped out of the vehicle. The other officer spoke with Hengel away from the vehicle. The officer ran Hengel’s information through dispatch, which returned that Hengel had a warrant for his arrest and that he was on probation.

The On-Call Probation Officer requested that the officer conduct a search of Hengel’s vehicle, which was parked nearby. On the passenger seat, the officer located a small glass pipe and a glass jar with meth inside. Hengel was placed under arrest and searched. During the search of Hengel’s person, law enforcement discovered a bag of meth. Hengel was arrested and transported to the Missoula County Detention Facility.

The Other Officer Spoke to Hawn

While this was taking place, the other original officer began talking with J.H. about why she was there and then informed her that she had observed the bong in her backseat, sitting next to some Narcan and another overdose prevention kit. She claimed that the bong was for smoking marijuana and that the Narcan and overdose prevention kit were from the needle exchange to give to other people.

She showed the officer the bong, which had meth residue in it. Then the officer asked her for consent to search her vehicle, which she agreed to. During the search, the officer located a quarter pound of meth in various baggies, 24 small empty plastic baggies, approximately 190 unused hypodermic needles, tourniquets, seven meth pipes, snort kits, a second meth bong made out of a honey bottle, two small digital scales, and cotton balls soaked in an unknown liquid. J.H. was arrested and taken to jail.
