Three of Missoula’s most visible leaders will speak at the annual City Club ‘State of the Community’ luncheon on Monday, April 15 at the Doubletree Hotel.

According to spokesperson Peggy Kuhr, the event gives Missoulians the opportunity to get an update from city leaders and ask them questions, as well.

“The State of the Community is the annual event where we have leaders from the county, the city and the University of Montana come and talk to us about what they’re seeing in the future for our community and the issues in particular that they are working on together,” said Kuhr, former Dean of the UM School of Journalism and Communications Director. “We will have the County Commission Chair Cola Rowley, and she will be followed by Missoula Mayor John Engen, to be followed by University of Montana President Seth Bodnar. The moderator will be William Marcus, well known from his years at Montana PBS on the UM campus.”

Kuhr said City Club affords citizens the opportunity to present questions and comments directly to the panel.

“City Club is a civic group that wants to encourage civil dialogue about issues on importance to all of us in Missoula, and so we encourage conversation,” she said. “We’re all seated at round tables, and after the panel has spoken, each table comes up with a question for the panelists, so we don’t just to have people sitting and listening to the speakers, we want them to actively participate with questions.”

Even though City Club is a private organization, the public is always welcome to attend and pay for lunch, or just for coffee and desert.

The event will be Monday, April 15 starting at 11:15 a.m. at the Doubletree Hotel at 100 Madison in Missoula.
