The Missoula man convicted of robbing the Missoula Federal Credit Union in 2009, Peter Thompson, was tried and convicted Thursday in Missoula District Court for shooting at a Missoula Sheriff’s Deputy while he was trying to escape. Thompson was found guilty of assault on a peace officer and negligent endangerment by a jury late Thursday afternoon. I spoke with Sergeant Tony Rio, the deputy involved in the shooting incident moments after the verdict came down. That interview is attached.

Rio says he was not physically injured after being shot at by Thompson, but has struggled emotionally because of the incident. Rio was honored by Sheriff Carl Ibsen this summer with an armed action medal for his actions that day.
