Awesome: New Zealand Town Celebrates “Missoula Day”
I was today years old when I found out Missoula, Montana has a sister city in New Zealand. By the looks of it, a lot of folks hadn't heard of our sister city until now.
I've never heard of your city, but I would now defent it with my life. - Pork_Chompk (lol, love the name)
I have never heard of this.... Native missoulian. Crazy! -my_name_is_jeeves (also, fun name)
Awesome! I didn't know that. - peterdantes (hi, Peter)
According to the Missoulian, it turns out Missoula has a sister city in Neckargemund, Germany, too.
A native New Zealander took to the Missoula subreddit page to inform us Missoula Day is coming up in Palmerston North, New Zealand.

Happy Missoula Day! On Saturday, November 25th, Palmerston North celebrates our wonderful town with some good ole' fashioned American entertainment.
"Starting at midday, the Amerian-themed day will again offer rides, entertainment, music, American cars and a hot dog-eating contest competition. There will also be line dancing, American singing and a best-dressed competition," according to the Manawatu Standard.
Hell yeah. Hot dogs, Ford Mustangs, square dancing and Garth Brooks. America.
The planning group, Palmy Bid, is even giving Kiwis a chance to win a trip to Missoula.
"This year, if people spend $20 at participating retail stores in the lead-up to Missoula Day, they will go into the draw to win a trip for two to Missoula next year."
I love it. I absolutely love this idea. Why don't we celebrate Palmerston North? Let's hold a rugby tournament and all perform the Haka. Whoever can intimidate the town the most intimidating Haka wins a trip to New Zealand to go on a Lord of the Rings tour.
Other Redditors had some thoughts on what Palmerston North could do to celebrate Missoula.
"Smoke weed, drink beer, walk an unleashed dog, and fall off of a broken chairlift" - clever_reddit_name69 (classic).
"No turn signals all day!" - BanDelayEnt
"Complain" -anselthequestion
This year celebrates the 40th anniversary since Missoula and Palmerston North became sister cities. The connection was established between the University of Montana and Massey University in 1982.
I will be celebrating by toasting Palmerston North with a chilled Cold Smoke.
