According to Ravalli County Sheriff Chris Hoffman, an inmate at the Ravalli Detention Center was caught attempting to break out of the facility early Monday morning.

"The individual had been able to destroy the locking mechanism of a heating and cooling access and was able to gain entry to that area," Hoffman said. "It appeared that the individual damaged an electrical conduit, was able to chip away at some cinder blocks in an effort to access the exterior of the detention center."

24-year-old Simeon Lippert was safely brough back into custody shortly after. Hoffman said that the man was caught because security measures worked.

"Obviously he has been charged and was arraigned later in the day for attempted escape--a felony--and it does appear that he acted alone in his attempt to escape," Hoffman said. "In my time in Ravalli County, I've only seen two or three attempts. I can't remember one that was actually successful where they damaged the building were able to and were able to escape that way."

Hoffman said that officials are currently reviewing security measures to ensure a similar escape attempt cannot be made.
