Police in northern Idaho say a woman apparently kidnapped by her estranged husband jumped from the moving vehicle during a police chase, and that the man fatally shot himself after his tires were flattened by a spike device.

Kootenai County Sheriff Rocky Watson says police received a report about 11 p.m. Saturday that Daniel Zehm had his wife and a gun.

Police say Zehm was arrested in November after throwing gas on his wife and threatening to light her on fire. Zehm has a "no contact order" against him.

Watson says Zehm fled from police and headed toward Coeur d'Alene, and that his wife jumped from the vehicle during the chase. Police say she didn't need medical care.

Police say Zehm stopped and shot himself after his tires were flattened.
