After gas prices dropped by nearly a dime last week, many were hoping to see more of the same over Labor Day weekend, but Petroleum annalist Will Spear says that that was not the case.

"It wasn't as big of a drop this week. There was about a penny and a half change, but in the right direction. As we get closer to the switch over to winter grade gasoline, Montanans can expect to be paying less in the coming weeks.

The switch to winter grade is coming soon.

"It varies from state to state, but in Montana, the change comes on September 16. Typically we see about a 10 to 15 cent savings there on the cheaper fuel. You won't see it all on one day, but once you start to whittle down that inventory, the savings will be passed on to motorists."

About a tenth of all gas stations in the U.S. now have gasoline at less than $2.00 per gallon. Montana pumps were averaging around $2.66 as of yesterday.
