MISSOULA, Mont. -

According to Boyd Hartwig, of the Lolo National Forest, crews with two engines and two helicopter are battling new fire start about 5 miles due south of Frenchtown on private timber land in the Deep Creek area.

The fire is located in an area between Bear Gulch and Cyr Gulch north of Deep Creek Road and within DNRC protection.

At the latest report, the fire is burning 7 acres, is wind-driven and making some runs up north slopes.

The fire is producing smoke visible from Missoula and the surrounding area.

Hartwig reports no structures are threatened at this time.
