MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) — Police in Missoula say at least two women have reported recent rapes since the U.S. Department of Justice announced May 1 that it would investigate how sexual assault cases are handled by Missoula and University of Montana campus police and the county attorney's office.

KECI-TV reports a UM student told police on Saturday that she was sexually assaulted in her dorm room. Detective Sgt. Bob Bouchee says the 19-year-old woman reported the assault happened between two and three weeks ago.

On May 2, another woman told police she was raped by a man who gave her a ride home from a party about two weeks earlier.

Both women were acquainted with their alleged attackers.

Sgt. Casey Richardson says he believes the investigation announcement is prompting some women to step forward.
