After Friday morning's fatal shooting on the campus of Northern Arizona University, University of Montana President Royce Engstrom voiced his concern and support for the fellow Big Sky Conference school.

"I'm very sorry to hear of another campus shooting, and to have one that is connected to us in the Big Sky Conference, in particular with Northern Arizona on our campus here last night, it's especially poignant," Engstrom said. "Our hearts go out to those folks at Northern Arizona, and we just hope that they're able to get on a path to recovery and that they can care for the people who are victims in this case."

The NAU volleyball team was in Missoula Thursday night for a match with Montana, sweeping the Grizzlies in three straight sets.

In Flagstaff, NAU Chief of Police G.T. Fowler said the incident involved two groups of males involved in a dispute in front of a residence hall.

"This morning at 0120 hours, two separate student groups got involved in an altercation that turned physical," Fowler began. "One of our students Steven Jones, 18, produced a handgun, and he shot four of our other students. One of our students is deceased, and the other three are being treated at the Flagstaff Medical Center. Steven was taken into custody by NAU police officers without incident."

The names of the victims have not yet been released. The campus was not put on lockdown after the incident.
