Officials in some of Idaho's biggest school districts are reporting an increase in the number of students that meet the definition for being homeless.

Officials with schools in the Treasure Valley say they are on pace to exceed last year's totals for enrolling students who are not living in their own home.

For example, the Boise School District has 644 students that are homeless, compared to 791 for all of last year.

Districts in Caldwell, Nampa and Meridian are also on pact to exceed last year's totals for homeless students.

Boise School District Spokesman Dan Holler says a growing number are from families "doubling up" in homes or apartments of relatives or moving from place to place every few weeks or months.
