Prosecutors and defense have rested their cases in the trial of a 42-year-old Billings man accused of multiple rapes.

Toby Eugene Griego did not take the stand during the five days of testimony that ended Friday.

Griego is being tried on 27 charges in connection with a string of home-invasion robberies, sexual assaults, kidnappings and an attempted sexual assault last year.

Prosecutors have accused him of attacking four victims on separate occasions.

The trial will resume Monday morning with closing arguments, after which the 12-person jury will go into deliberation.

The Billings Gazette reports that court records indicate if he is convicted of the rape, kidnapping or robbery charges, Griego faces a mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
