To accommodate taxpayers during the week before the April 15 deadline for filing income tax returns, the Montana Department of Revenue will offer expanded hours at its call center. Communications Specialist Ted Brewer said with the April 15 deadline quickly approaching, service expansion is necessary:

"Our call center is going to have extended hours," Brewer said. "On April 10 and 11, the call center will be open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. We're also going to be open on Saturday, April 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and then on April 14 and 15 from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m."

Brewer said for additional help, people can call toll free at 866-859-2254.

"If people are mailing their returns in, the returns need to be postmarked April 15," Brewer said. "If they are filing electronically, they need to do so by midnight on April 15. If they are dropping their returns off at the Department of Revenue office, they need to do so by 5 p.m."

Last year, Brewer said the Department of Revenue processed a total of about 550,000 individual income tax returns. This year so far, only 327,000 individual income tax returns have been processed.
