The Missoula City Council's Public Health and Safety Committee met on Wednesday morning to hear more details about a proposed ordinance to require more comprehensive background checks on guns bought and sold privately in Missoula.
An expansion of background checks for gun purchasers who live in the city of Missoula has been proposed at Missoula city council and passed out of committee this week. Councilman Bryan von Lossberg helped to draft the ordinance and explained its intent.
A Missoula attorney representing the Montana Shooting Sports Association, Quentin Rhoades, has sent a letter to the Missoula City Council stating that the proposed gun sales ordinance violates existing Montana law.
