Early Thursday morning, shots were exchanged in Lake County during what appeared to be an attempted burglary in the Ninepipes area.

Sheriff Don Bell provided details of the incident.

“Our Lake County 911 center took a call on June 18th at 4:15 am, reporting an armed robbery in the Ninepipes area,” said Sheriff Bell. “The reporting party stated he woke up to people unlawfully entering vehicles in his driveway.  He fired a warning shot towards the suspects, which in turn elicited return fire from one of the three to four suspects.  The individual shot again towards the fleeing suspects as they left in an SUV.”

Bell said the reporting party provided a description of the suspect vehicle.

“It was reported the vehicle was possibly a later model Jeep or other small wheel base SUV similar to a Jeep, with a “square body design,” he said. “No color was distinguishable due to the darkness.”

Bell asks if anyone has information regarding this case, to please contact the Lake County Sheriff’s Office at 406-883-7301 or email the information to lcso@lakemt.gov.
