Sometime during the spring, a person or persons burglarized five homes on Wild Horse Island on Flathead Lake, stealing valuable artwork, and a reward is being offered for their capture.

Lake County Sheriff Don Bell said the alleged burglaries took place sometime in late spring.

"Earlier this year, we had five different homes broken into on Wild Horse Island, and we just recently received photos of three of the pieces of art that were stolen in these burglaries," Bell said. "The owners of the art have offered a reward, so we're hoping to get these photos out and see if anyone has any information. Please call 883-7301, which is the sheriff's office here in Lake County, or 883-7309, which is the Crimestoppers number."

Bell said there are several pieces of private property on the island, which can only be reached by boat.

"Somebody went out there by boat, did the burglaries, and then left by boat," he said. "We're trying to come up with leads on this, so I'm hoping that somebody saw something suspicious and they'll call it in so we can get this art back and get the people responsible arrested."

Bell said the three works of art, two paintings and one bronze sculpture, are valued at between $5,000 to $8,000.
