Missoula Police responded to a hostage call near the University of Montana today, April 5, at around 2:30, however, they were in stand down mode less than 45 minutes later.

According to Police Public Information Officer Travis Welsh, the original report was from "a male who claimed to be holding his daughter hostage, had a firearm, and was threatening law enforcement."

However, Welsh says that did not appear to be the case at the location that was investigated, 522 Garnet Court.

It appears that the situation may have been a ruse by the male 9-11 caller. If it is a ruse, a similar event happened in Stevensville recently.
