A police officer in Deer Lodge has killed a man after responding to a report of suicide threat at a residence.

NBC Montana is reporting that Powell County Sheriff Scott Howard says a Deer Lodge Police officer responded to a suicide threat around 11:30 p.m. Friday.

The officer was inside the home when he shot and killed another person.

Howard says the sheriff's department and investigators with the Montana Department of Justice are investigating.

Howard says he can't yet release more information, including the names of the people involved or more information about the circumstances of the shooting. Howard says he expects to release more information in the next few days.

The officer involved in the shooting has been placed on paid administrative leave.
