University of North Carolina law professor Alfred Brophy recently did a study on law schools across the country and found that The University of Montana’s Alexander Blewett III School of Law was vastly underrated. University of Montana Director of admissions and career Services Lori Freeman says the study is good news for Missoula.

"I think its good news," Freeman said. "U.S. News and World Report annually rank law schools. This last year we were ranked 113, and there's just over 200 law schools. They only rank the first 150. According to Brophy's ranking, we would jump to number 73."

Freeman says the new analysis includes better standards than the traditional U.S. News and World Report rankings.

"This new ranking system focused more on median LSAT scores, employment rankings, and the number of citations that the law review gets," Freeman said. "I think the new ranking systems focus more on what law students really should be looking at and that’s the quality of their classmates and their opportunities after they graduate."

The jump of 40 points makes the University of Montana the third most underrated law school in the country. Campbell University in North Carolina was the most underrated, but even with the new score, it failed to crack into the top 100.
