Authorities are investigating after a man was found dead with trauma to the head at a site where some of Butte's homeless population regularly congregate.

Butte-Silver Bow Sheriff John Walsh says the death appears suspicious, but the cause is still being investigated. The man, who appears to be between the ages of 25 and 35, has not been identified.

His body was discovered at about 6:30 a.m. Wednesday by a resident who routinely checks in on the homeless who gather near the Butte Civic Center. Police say the person who reported the death told them the man was found with a severe head injury and no pulse.

Walsh says there doesn't appear to be any connection with the death and a possible attack across town that left a 20-year-old woman in a coma Wednesday morning.
