A teenager serving a sentence of life without parole in the home invasion killing of an elderly Sheridan man wants a new court hearing on whether he received an adequate legal defense.

Dharminder Vir Sen of Sheridan was 15 when he and two other teens broke into the house of 79-year-old Robert Ernst in 2009. Prosecutors say Sen fired the shots that killed Ernst.

Sen's lawyer filed a request this week with the Wyoming Supreme Court asking it to order a new hearing in district court on Sen's claims.

Sen's current lawyer says Sen might have been tried as a juvenile if his original lawyer had presented more information about his mental history and difficult childhood.

The Wyoming Attorney General's Office hasn't taken a position on Sen's hearing request.
