Kindergartner Arrested After Throwing Temper Tantrum in School — Is It Justified? [VIDEO]
Most children who throw temper tantrums wind up in time-out. But one six-year-old in Georgia had such a violent fit that cops felt the need to handcuff her and take her to the police station.
According to the report filed by officers in Milledgeville, GA, kindergartner Salecia Johnson tore items off the walls at Creekside Elementary School, threw furniture, bit doorknobs, jumped on a paper shredder, and injured the principal when she knocked over a shelf.
The responding officer said he tried to calm the child, but when she continued her rampage, he handcuffed her for safety reasons and took her to the police station, where she was charged with simple assault and damage to property.
“Our policy is that any detainee transported to our station in a patrol vehicle is to be handcuffed in the back. There is no age discrimination on that rule,” said Milledgeville Chief of Police Dray Swicord.
But Earnest Johnson, Salecia’s father, is upset, saying, “A six-year-old in kindergarten. They don’t have no business calling the police and handcuffing my child.”
The child’s mother, Constance Ruff, added, “She has mood swings some days, which all of us had mood swings some days. I guess that was just one of her bad days that day.”
