GREAT FALLS, Mont. (AP) — Jury selection is scheduled to begin in Great Falls in the death of a 2-year-old girl last summer.

The Great Falls Tribune reports jury selection was scheduled to begin Monday in District Court and could run into Tuesday.

David Wayne Hyslop is charged with deliberate homicide in the death of October Perez, the daughter of his girlfriend. October died of head injuries suffered while in Hyslop's care on June 23, 2011.

Prosecutors allege the girl's death was the culmination of a pattern of abuse she suffered at the hands of Hyslop. County Attorney John Parker is expected to call medical witnesses who will testify the girl suffered previous broken bones and prematurely missing teeth.

Hyslop's attorneys plan to argue that someone else besides Hyslop was responsible for those injuries.
