830 seniors will be receiving diplomas this weekend in high school graduation ceremonies.

The first graduation ceremony is Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m.at the University of Montana Recital Hall, where graduates from the Willard Alternative High School will be receiving their diplomas.

Regional Director of Missoula School District One Mark Thane says the other ceremonies will take place on Saturday and Sunday, June 1 and 2.

"On Saturday, we have a triple-header in the University of Montana Adams Center," Thane said. "Sentinel's graduation exercises will take place at 10:00 a.m. Big Sky's graduation ceremonies will begin at 12:30 p.m., and at 3:00 p.m. Hellgate seniors will graduate. Then, on Sunday, the Seeley Swan class will graduate at 1:00 p.m. in Seeley Swan High School's gymnasium."

District One Superintendent Alex Apostle said graduation is the culmination of all the programs the district has put in place over the past five years.

"We made a change five years ago that you have to earn the right to walk through graduation, meaning that you have to satisfy all the requirements," Apostle said. "Previous to five years ago, students could walk through graduation ceremonies, even though they did not have the required number of credits to graduate. I think the change has brought a new sense of appreciation on the part of staff, parents and families."
