HELENA, Mont. (AP) — Authorities say a weekend stabbing has left a Helena man hospitalized and on life support.

An affidavit filed in Justice Court says police responding to a complaint Saturday night found 25-year-old Cole Waylon Whitegrass "bleeding profusely." The Independent Record reports that Whitegrass was airlifted to a Great Falls hospital with multiple stab wounds, including a punctured lung and an injury below his eye.

The affidavit said he was on life support Sunday. His condition was not immediately known on Monday.

Luis Enrique Zayas was to appear in court Monday on a charge of attempted deliberate homicide.

The affidavit says the two men had been drinking Saturday in different locations.

Zayas has told police he stabbed Whitegrass in self-defense.
