HELENA, Mont. (AP) — A Helena man has denied allegations that he assaulted his 3-month-old son, causing him to suffer head and eye injuries.

The Independent Record reports (http://bit.ly/1GpaLjT ) 26-year-old Dustin Gunville pleaded not guilty Thursday to felony aggravated assault.

District Judge James Reynolds rejected defense attorney Christopher Abbott's request to reduce Gunville's bail from $50,000 to $5,000.

Charging documents say the boy was taken to the emergency room on March 30 and staff called police because they suspected his head injuries were caused by abuse. The baby was taken to the hospital in Great Falls, where he underwent surgery to remove excess blood causing pressure on his brain.
