The Montana attorney general is creating a task force to determine how many law enforcement rape kits have gone untested.

Attorney General Tim Fox says no one knows the exact number of untested kits in Montana, and the task force will work to determine where the state stands. The group will be comprised of lawmakers and authorities, among others.

The fate of rape kits has become a nationwide issue, with many states reporting thousands that have gone untested.

Fox spokesman John Barnes says not all kits collected by Montana law enforcement are submitted to the state crime lab in Missoula. But he says any kits received are tested.

Fox says the crime lab is doing well with "getting their analysis and reports out."
