The Princeton Review has nominated the University of Montana as a “Green College”. Although 322 institutions made the list, UM sustainability coordinator Cherie Peacock says the UM is unique in the region.

“This is the fourth time they’ve put together that guide and we’ve actually made it into every one of the guides they’ve published so far,” said Peacock “There are a lot of campuses, but we are the only one in Montana. And I think the only one in Idaho, South Dakota, Wyoming . . . so we kind of stand out in the Rocky Mountain region.”

The UM was singled out for a number of reasons, including its on campus green cleaning programs, a small reduction in the schools carbon footprint, its farm to school program, and its curriculum.

“The climate change studies minor,” said Peacock, describing the schools green curriculum. “And we also have a very unique faculty workshop called “green thread” in which faculty learn how to incorporate sustainability into their curriculum, in whatever curriculum they teach in.”
