Surprise, surprise… Average retail gasoline prices in Montana have not moved in the past week. Petroleum Analyst Gregg Laskoski with gasbuddy.com said average prices around the state have remained close to $3.57 per gallon.

"We can expect to see gas prices move lower and that's exactly what's been happening recently," Laskoski said. "In Montana, the statewide average is $3.57 per gallon. That's down just a penny in the past week, but it's down three cents a gallon from where we were a month ago. A year ago, we were looking at $3.70 as the state average, so $3.70 is certainly an improvement."

Laskoski said the national average has declined significantly to $3.37 per gallon, down six cents compared to a week ago. He added that this is a great time of year for consumers for a number of reasons.

"We are seeing a production boom," Laskoski said. "In 2014, American fuel production is at the highest level we've seen since 1986. At the same time, crude oil prices are moving lower, so that's a very good combination. We also see consumer demand in decline at this time a year. We generally consume 12 gallons less in the fall than we do during the summer time."

Laskoski said prices are expected to decline another 10 to 20 cents per gallon from now up until Thanksgiving.
