A human-caused fire broke out at a residence on Mullan Road between Frenchtown and Missoula that was quickly knocked down by crews from Frenchtown Fire.

Spokesman Mel Holtz said the fire was reported just after 4 p.m. and by the time crews arrived, it had consumed a shed and was heading straight for a nearby residence.

""When we arrived we found a fully involved shed, as well as a wildland fire that was headed right towards the home," Holtz said. "We had six apparatus respond and we able to get on top of that fire and support the home so the home never caught fire."

Holtz said it took crews about a half an hour to get the fire under control, although crews stayed to mop up and watch any hot spots.

"It came within just feet of the residence, so we were able to stop it and keep the residence from catching fire," he said.

Holtz said the fire was human caused, and is under investigation.
