Students in Arabic language and culture classes at Hellgate High School andWillard Alternative High School programs are learning from a new instructor this school year – Mohamed Abdelsamad, an Egyptian on a one-year fellowship with the U.S. Department of State. As a fellow, Abdelsamad is participating in the 2011 Teachers of Critical Languages Program (TCLP). He is one of 25 teachers selected from China and Egypt for participation in programs this school year across the United States.

Abdelsamad is from Samanoud, Egypt, a city with a population of about 300,000. The city is located in the Nile delta. Abdelsamad has 16 years of experience teaching English to middle school students in Egypt. This is his second visit to the United States. About 10 years ago, he traveled to Atlanta, Ga., for specialized training.
