The City and Downtown Missoula Partnership is sponsoring a design excellence workshop this week. Director Linda McCarthy said the main goal of the workshop is to establish a shared base of understanding on how design policies can be promoted through different standards.

"This is the next step of community discussion of what we'd like to do in Missoula as it relates to design guidelines," McCarthy said. "We have Nore' Winter and Brad Johnson in town this week and we've been able to take advantage of their time and talent and put together a workshop for this Friday."

McCarthy said the workshop will also seek a general consensus among participants on the role design excellence should have in Missoula.

"Coming out of this workshop we hope to have sort of a recommendation on 'What are the next steps that Missoula would take if we were to pursue design guidelines?'" McCarthy said. "We've learned in Missoula that if we do a good job of planning, then what we want to come to fruition will do so."

Friday’s discussions is open to the public and will be held at the Holiday Inn Downtown from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
