Bozeman businessman Steve Daines is continuing his congressional campaign based on a familiar Republican message of less federal spending.

Daines has been running for the office and raising money for more than a year, but he formally filed paperwork Tuesday with election officials to appear on the ballot.

Daines is aiming to keep the House seat in GOP hands, as current U.S. Rep. Denny Rehberg vacates it in order to challenge U.S. Sen. Jon Tester. Democrats have a crowded primary field of seven declared candidates for the House seat.

Daines leads all in fundraising.

The vice president at RightNow Technologies says a balanced federal budget with no new taxes is a priority.

Daines says he blames Democrats for budget stalemates in Washington D.C.
