BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — Police in Billings shot and killed a man wanted on a felony warrant after he shot at officers who tried to apprehend him at a gas station and later exchanged gunfire with officers at a downtown motel.

Police Chief Rich St. John says officers spotted the suspect at a gas station at about 3:30 a.m. Thursday. When they tried to arrest him, the suspect pulled out a gun and fired at the officers as he ran away.

After about an hour, officers found the suspect at the Dude Rancher Lodge. St. John says the man was shot and killed during an exchange of gunfire in the motel lobby’s area.

Information about the man and why he had an arrest warrant was not immediately released. No other injuries were reported.
