Low relative humidity and a strong breeze pushed a wildland fire from a quarter acre to 75 acres in a matter of hours on Sunday evening. Missoula’s fire danger is “Extreme” and this rapid fire growth is a result of these conditions.

The Albert Fire was noticed at about 4pm and is visible from I-90, Mullen Road, and North Reserve. The public is urged to stay clear of the fire area as the traffic may interfere with suppression activity. Firefighters will remain on the fire overnight in an effort to contain it. Higher relative humidity and cooler temperatures overnight should aid firefighting efforts.

Two crews (contract crew and US Forest Service crew), multiple engines from Montana DNRC, Frenchtown Fire, Missoula Rural Fire, water tenders, and an excavator.

SAFETY of firefighters and the public is a primary concern. The biggest concern now is traffic in the area which may interfere with fire suppression efforts.

The cause of the fire is unknown. An investigator has been ordered and is on scene.
