UM Hires Interim Provost To Replace Retiring Perry Brown

The University of Montana has hired Beverly C. Edmond to serve as the interim provost, as well as Vice President for academic affairs for the next school year to replace the retiring Perry Brown.

Vice President for Integrated Communications Peggy Kuhr said Edmond was chosen from four candidates to serve in the interim post.

Kuhr said Edmond will assume the full responsibilities of the provost position.

"She will keep momentum going for academic affairs and student success which is academic advising," she said. "Once we have the students here, how to keep them here People in these interim positions keep the ship moving while the search is underway for a full time administrator."

"The University selected candidates for interim provost using the Registry, a service that provides senior-level administrators who are prescreened and immediately able to serve on a temporary basis," Kuhr said. "Four candidates interviewed on campus April 22. The plan has always been to hire the interim provost for a year, since academic searches for the number two position at the University of Montana take months and months. That search will begin this fall, and that will involve people from all over the campus and the community."

Edmond retired recently from Albany State University in Georgia, and holds a doctorate in political science with a concentration in public administration from Georgia State University in Atlanta.

She will begin her duties in early June and serve through the coming academic school year.
