Just after 2:00am on Saturday, Missoula Police received a call to conduct a welfare check. Police Public Information Officer Travis Welsh says officers drove to the motel in 3000 block of Expo Park Way.

“The clerk there had identified a female in the lobby who was crying and complaining that she was assaulted,” Welsh said. “When the officers arrived, they made contact with the adult female. She pointed out a male that she had been with that caused her injuries a little while earlier. That male was standing out in the parking lot.”

Another officer arrived and the original officer went outside and made contact with 21-year-old Curtis Marceau. Marceau was arrested and charged with felony strangulation of a partner or family member. According to Welsh, the victim said Marceau was not the only one who assaulted her.

“The victim had stated that there were actually two males involved in her assault,” Welsh said. “Mr. Marceau was one. She was able to provide a name to us and a local address. We are currently in the process of attempting to locate him. He is also an adult male. He is 18 years of age.”

Welsh says officer observed swelling and red marks on the victims face and neck. An ambulance was called because she was also complaining about experiencing some abdominal pain. She was transported to the hospital to receive treatment.
