West Riverside fire

Several agencies are battling a new fire reported this morning near the location of the 2011 West Riverside fire. Cindy Super, fire information officer with the Department of Natural Resources and Conservation, says the fire is a little more than an acre in size, but is attracting a lot of attention.

As temperatures change and we begin to see the leaves fall, fire season is winding down. State Prevention Specialist from the Montana DNRC, Pat Cross says if someone is found responsible for starting a fire they will be held accountable...

Wednesday was a good day for personnel fighting the West Riverside Fire. Fire Information Officer Joan Dickerson has details. That interview is attached.

Firefighters were expecting high winds to push the boundaries of the West Riverside Fire on Tuesday, but Fire Information Officer Katie Notek says the weather was a non-factor in the firefighting equation. My interview with Notek is attached.

As of Tuesday morning, the West Riverside Fire has burned 3600 acres. Fire Information Officer Dixie Dees provides the percentage of containment, the cost so far to fight the blaze and the number of personnel assigned to the fire.

The size of the fire is estimated at 3,400 acres. Higher west winds are expected this afternoon so there is a potential for fire growth mostly moving to the northeast. The fire is most active on the northwest and northeast sides. On the northwest side of the fire, in Marshall Creek, crews will construct line northwest from a saddle north of Woody Mountain along a ridge system in Marshall Cree

The West Riverside Fire experienced another, smaller wind event on Sunday afternoon, increasing the fire’s size to over 3400 acres. I spoke with Fire Information Officer Dixie Dees on Sunday evening at about 8 pm. That interview is attached.

Missoula County Sheriff's Department Public Information Officer Jason Johnson says he met with West Riverside fire officials to discuss plans to evacuate homes in the area...in case the fire takes a turn for the worse. Johnson says he doesn't expect any evacuations at this time...but, officials want to be ready, just in case. That interview is attached.
