The National Weather Service is predicting a strong weather system that will deposit up to eight inches of new snow in the Missoula valley this week, with a possible three feet of snow in the surrounding mountains.

The Missoula Health Department reports that flu cases are spiking with over a dozen hospitalizations, mostly of the very young and the elderly.

As the snow began to fall on Christmas Eve, Brian Hensel with the Missoula Street Division sent out his snowplow drivers in what was the beginning of several 16 hour shifts clearing the city's streets.

The City of Missoula has an ambitious plan to clear every residential street of snow in Missoula before the next storm is scheduled to arrive late Thursday night, February 27.

The message from the Missoula County Sheriff's Office on this Monday evening, December 9 is to only travel if necessary, and if you do have to drive, please slow down.
