Federal officials say at least 30 applications from companies seeking to mine hundreds of millions of tons of coal face suspension as the government reviews sales of the fuel from public lands.

Sen. Steve Daines rallied other senators on Wednesday in support for the Land and Water Conservation Fund, which looks at increasing public access on public land.

During the 2013-2014 session of the Montana State Legislature, a joint resolution  (S.J. 15) passed, setting up a bipartisan committee to study how well public land was being managed by the federal government in the state of Montana.
