Earlier this year, the Higgins Avenue Bridge was officially renamed the Beartrack Bridge, to honor the Bitterroot Salish peoples who crossed the river over a hundred years ago on their own ‘trail of tears’ to what is now the Flathead Reservation.
In December, 2019 the Montana Department of Transportation went back to the drawing board after the initial estimate for reconstructing the Higgins Avenue Bridge came in at $37 million, more than twice the original estimate.
The seventh annual Missoula Marathon starting gun sounded at 6:00 a.m. sharp on Sunday, July 14, both at the full marathon starting point in Frenchtown, and the half-marathon starting location on Blue Mountain Road.
