The Dry Gulch Fire has burned over a quarter of an acre about five miles up Dry Gulch Road in an area near Frenchtown that has not experienced any lightning strikes over the past few days, according to Fire Prevention Specialist Jordan Koppen with the Department of Natural Resources and Conservation
A combination of hot temperatures and a lack of moisture in the past two weeks caused the Missoula County Fire Protection Association to raise the fire danger level from ‘High’ to ‘Very High’ on Monday.
After the historic 2017 wildfire season that burned over a million acres of forestland as well as private property, officials with the DNRC are advising residents in the wildland urban interface to prepare their properties for fire.
Jordan Koppen with the Department of Natural Resources and Conservation will be setting up a reader board just past the Grant Creek Town Pump starting at 2:00 p.m. on Friday to encourage area residents to sign up for home visits to prepare their properties for wildfires.
