The Montana Department of Corrections is investigating the reported homicide of 53-year-old Danny Lee Hartford. Hartford's body was discovered in his cell on Sunday evening at approximately 8: 10 p.m.

According to Public Information/Victim's Information Officer Linda Moodry, Hartford was killed in a high security compound of the prison. Moodry says that "information in the cell" led to the determination of homicide, but that she was unable to  give further details until the investigation is completed.

Hartford was sentenced to 30 years probation in 1997 on two counts of sexual assault in Lewis and Clark County. He violated conditions of his probation and was sentenced to prison by Judge Thomas Honzel in 2010.
