Paws a Minute and Peek at a New Montanans’ Favorite Dog Survey
Everybody loves to brag about their dogs and what makes them the best breed.
Fair enough, and who are we to tell you that your favorite isn't the favorite of many others, pushing it up the pooch power rankings. At the same time, it's always fun to unleash some survey data, and see what breed is making a pretty loud bark these days among Montana dog lovers.
Megan Dean with Digitaloft was kind enough to send us some numbers compiled by Showsight Magazine, which thoroughly analyzed search data to identify the most popular dog breeds in the USA and in each individual state. Here is what they fetched for Montana. Based on the number of searches, the most popular dog breed is:
THE BERNESE MOUNTAIN DOG
According to Showsight, The Bernese Mountain Dog is the most popular breed in 10 states, including Montana. And why not? These dogs are well-suited to colder climates, contributing to their popularity in northern states. Despite (and as far as Montana goes, because of) their large size, Bernese Mountain Dogs are still known for their gentle nature, especially around children, making them excellent family companions.
The Bernese Mountain Dog saw the second highest volume of searches to purchase or adopt a breed, with 532,000 searches over the past 12 months, second only to the massive, powerful and protective Cane Corso. Perhaps more recognizable by sight than name, the tri-colored breed of working dog is well-known for its loyalty, intelligence, and temperament. They are best-suited in households with the space to accommodate them and the time to give them the exercise and mental stimulation they need.
If you know anyone who owns a Bernese Mountain Dog, their reaction to a survey like this is likely, "Well of course they are!"
