Montanans, Surprisingly, Are Becoming More ‘Sober Curious’

Traditionally Montana is a state where people like to enjoy an adult beverage or two. The upcoming holiday, St. Patrick's Day, is a day, for some, that may involve having an adult beverage. This doesn't go for everyone, fewer people are drinking as much these days.

There has been a trend taking place across the country with younger adults not drinking as much alcohol as in the past. According to Gallup polls, young adult drinking habits are changing.

Montana is seeing some of these same trends happening here. According to MyRxOutlet.com, more states, including Montana, are becoming "sober curious". Their latest survey shows that almost half of Montanans, 43.8% surveyed are interested in cutting back on their alcohol consumption.

Breweries are starting to take note. If you walk down your local grocery store's beer aisle, the amount of alcohol free choices of beer is increasing. Non-alcoholic beers, like O'Douls, have been around for some time. Some of the bigger breweries are now offering non-alcoholic selections like Guinness and Heineken. Some brands specialize in non-alcoholic beverages like Athletic. Local microbrewers, like Imagine Brewing, are also offering up non-alcoholic beers.

There has also been a trend in non-alcohol wines, with more selections showing up on store shelves too.

This trend may help Montana one day reach its Vision Zero goal. Until then, with St. Patrick's Day festivities planned for this weekend, please make sure you designate a sober driver and enjoy responsibly.
