Montana Government Offices and USPS to Close January 9 in Tribute to Jimmy Carter
President Joe Biden has officially made tomorrow, January 9th, 2025 a National Day of Mourning in observance of the death of former President Jimmy Carter. That means that federal government offices, agencies, and banks will be closed.
The United States Postal Service has announced that they will suspend regular mail delivery on Thursday, January 9th as well. They will also be shutting down retail services and offices. They will have limited package delivery on Thursday.
Keep that in mind if you are planning on putting your mail out on the 9th. It will not be picked up until the following day. As a safety reminder, national holidays and long weekends are good times for thieves to take advantage of mail not being picked up in a timely manner, so please be aware mail service won't happen on that day.
National Parks and services are generally going to be open on January 9, according to the Park Services website. They recommend that everyone planning to visit a national park check the status of the individual park before heading out.
Former President Jimmy Carter passed away on December 29th, at the age of 100. He was the 39th President of the United States serving only term as the leader of the country. He was also the recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002.
The USPS says that they will resume service on Friday, January 10th. In the meantime, people are encouraged to use the day off to reflect on the long life of former President Carter and all that he accomplished over his lifetime.
