3 Takeaways from Missoula’s Epic Concert Week at Washington Grizzly Stadium
Last night closed the third of three giant shows at Washington Grizzly Stadium.
This was the first time Missoula had three major shows at the stadium, not to mention, they were all within the same week.
Despite having music acts from three different genres, all three shows shared an appreciation for Montana. While it may not have been specifically designed for Missoula and its geography, all three acts took advantage of Montana's big sky with larger-than-life displays.
Pearl Jam's aerial Montana footage was humbling.
To see a global phenomenon like Pearl Jam in Missoula is special, but when I talked to a friend who went to the show, one of the parts that stuck out most to him was the way Pearl Jam showed their appreciation for Missoula and Montana. That was on display when during the first song the screens behind the band were lit up with footage of Missoula.
Tyler Childer's drone show was amazing, and showed us what is possible.
We had an excited caller on our show Monday morning talking about the "Chicken fireworks," they saw at the Tyler Childers show. You may have seen drone light shows in big cities around the country (or world) but to see one in little old Missoula Montana was pretty exciting. In the video below you can see the footbridge lit up in the foreground, an idiosyncratic detail of Missoula at night, but then to see the drone lights behind it--it's spectacular.
Wouldn't it be great if Missoula could have one of these drone light shows for the 4th of July?
P!nk flying through the air while singing was exhilarating.
There's no question P!nk is a consummate performer. She's athletic and her vocals are both powerful and beautiful. But to see her singing and flying like Peter Pan, only to land on the narrowest of pillars, standing on one foot, or doing an upside down one-handed handstand, it's extraordinary.
Thank you to everyone involved in bringing these shows to Missoula.
Let's do it again next summer. :-)
