It's the end of an era in Missoula.
We have been witnessing some longtime businesses closing their doors in Missoula lately. It isn't easy to watch them go away.

If you talk to most people who grew up in Missoula in the '60s and up until recently, a lot of them would have a story about our local 4B's Restaurant. Maybe they ate there, or knew someone who worked there, or tried their famous tomato soup.
Missoula's 4B's Closes Their Doors
It is being reported by the Missoulian that it has closed its doors for good. There have been multiple 4B's locations in Missoula over the years. The one that recently closed its doors was located at 700 East Broadway.
That location is a special one, because it's built over Rattlesnake Creek. Years before it became a 4B's, it was at one time Finnegans. I can't tell you how much time I spent in that building, especially during my high school days. My friends and I would skateboard on the University of Montana campus and at the footbridge behind Albertsons, then head over to Finnegans for fries and coffee.
The 4B's location where I spent the most time was the South Reserve location. That location has been a casino for a long time. They never changed the shape of the building, so for me it will always be a 4B's, even though the restaurant is long gone.
The 4B's tomato soup was legendary. Part of what made it legendary was they printed the recipe for people to make at home. If you search, you can find it online.
There are rumors about what type of restaurant will replace 4B's. Whatever restaurant it is, I wish them luck. I am not sure they will publish their recipes for people to make at home like 4B's did.

If you really miss 4B's, you can take a trip east to visit the Deer Lodge location that is still open and serves their famous tomato soup.
