Just when you think tourist season in Montana is in full swing, it steps up a notch. Glacier National Park has announced that the Going-to-the-Sun Road is fully open for the season.

This year Glacier may feel a bit more crowded than usual. It's one of the most popular national parks in the country, and this year there is construction planned that may make if feel a bit smaller than usual. Parking and hiking in certain areas is going to be affected.

For those who choose to bike the Going-to-the-Sun Road they should exercise extreme caution. There is only a short window when cars are restricted on the road, and bicyclists are allowed.

The National Park Service has a lot of information about bicycling in Glacier, and specifically about the Going-to-the-Sun Road. Be prepared to be able to cycle in heavy traffic.

Cars aren't the only thing you need to be aware of. There is also the wildlife. A couple weeks ago a bear had stolen a backpack with food in it. The park had to close down the road for a while, until the bear was out of the area.
