Two Montana Cities Made ‘Best-Run’ in the Nation List

Living in a town for any length of time gives you a sense of how it runs, what you like about it, and areas for improvement. But until you experience life elsewhere, you may not realize just how good you actually have it.

When it comes to some of the best run cities in the country, there are a lot of factors that go into something like that. A city isn't an easy thing to run, let alone run it well. I can't imagine all of the day to day decisions that need to be made to make sure a city runs smoothly.

Two Montana Cities Are Some of the Best-Run in the U.S.

There are two cities in Montana that are run well, according to Wallet Hub. Not only are they run well, they are some of the best run cities in the country. Both cities have made the top twenty "Best & Worst Run Cities in America (2024)".

Both Billings and Missoula overall are ranked in the top best run cities in the country. Missoula is ranked at number 15 and Billings is ranked at number 16. WalletHub looked at how cities manage and spend public funds, "comparing the quality of the services the residents receive against the total budget". WalletHub considers 36 different metrics to evaluate the quality of services offered by a city when calculating their scores.

One category where Billings actually stood out, and even came out on top is air pollution. Billings was tied for first place with the least amount of air pollution with Lubbock, Texas.

According to WalletHub, the overall best run city in America is in one of our neighboring states that would be Nampa, Idaho.
